Training for the Gladiator Rock'n Run

Hey there.  Training has begun!  Well... actually, I've been doing some exercises on and off for quite some time so it's not like I've been sitting on my butt doing nothing, but today marks the official day that training starts.  The Gladiator Rock'n Run is on Oct. 6th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and I have a little over a month to build my endurance.  That's the one area where I know I lack.  I'm not the biggest of guys, I'm not the fastest, I'm not the most athletic, but I do have an OK build and I'm not a push over.  I was able to complete all of the challenges during the Hero Rush but I did notice that during the jogging parts of the run, other runners ran by me.  The challenges were tough and I was able to power through it, but I could tell that my body slowed down to recuperate during the jog.  I even stopped to walk at some points.  Not good.  So I want to make sure that I can build that endurance.  I need to able to finish through obstacles AND still have enough in my tank to jog to the next obstacle.   So tonight, my endurance levels up!

I am already doing 4 sets of 25 push ups and dips every day.  There is a lot of climbing and upper body strength obstacles so I want to make sure that I maintain, if not increase, my strength since it served me well during the Hero Rush.  What I've been wanting to do is run every morning to build up that endurance that I so desperately need.  Every day this week, I've gotten up at 5:58 AM (2 minutes before my 6 AM alarm goes off) with the intention of going for a run.  So far... I'm 0 for 3.  lol  I open my eyes but I can't find the drive to get up, get dressed, and take off... AND I NEED TO.  That's the one part of my fitness regime that I need to improve.  My cardio and endurance sucks and if I don't get it where it needs to be I will not do well at the Gladiator Rock'n Run.

Expect a picture of the sun rising tomorrow on my Twitter and Instagram feed.  If you don't see it... I'm 0 for 4 this week. lol  So what you do for motivation?  Do you guys prefer morning runs or evening runs?  Do you guys take any protein or nutritional supplements?  I'm open to suggestions!!!  Later!

  1. I do my gym routine early in the morning - up at 4:45am....which means I miss a lot of workouts because sleep just sounds so much better. I have a 3-year-old so I have to go to the gym while my husband is home - which means early morning or late night. I used to do late night but I was too pumped to sleep, which was a big issue. Keeping motivated is the hardest part...since my exercise is spurred by the desire to loose weight I weigh myself often that seems to help motivate me...plus I give myself goals and rewards... oh when I loose another 5 pounds I am going to buy that cool Star Wars t-shirt that I liked.... so on and so forth.... I work more when there is a reward at the end of the tunnel. Also I MUST go to the gym...if I am left to try and exercise while home...I dont period...there is to much I would rather do then workout, but if I get to the gym and through the doors I am garenteed to workout.

  2. Hey there Natasha,

I can do a workout at home but it's nowhere near the intensity or efficiency of doing a workout at the gym. It's just like you said, I would rather do other things at home and those things usually involve the kids. lol I go to bed pretty late and am up early so I'm thinking that maybe early morning workouts to start the day would be best for me. I'll have to tinker with it to see what works best for me. Thanks Natasha!
