"But Metallman, you have awesome giveaways going on all the time! Surely, you have monies to buy those prizes why not spend some of that for a plane ticket?"
Great observation, friend. See, if I could, I would. The problem? I can't buy a plane ticket with Amazon giftcards. lol I've been fortunate enough to be a member of Swagbucks and that I earn so many points there that they basically fund my giveaways each month. And that's not including giveaways that I do not fund personally, like those from a sponsor or ones that I cohost. I do earn other income and get paid via PayPal but because I haven't been "working" as much as I used to, those opportunities have not been there for me.
Also, I tried having a fundraiser, but as you can see from the widget below, it's been running for almost 3 months and only 2 awesome souls donated. lol I'll admit, though. I don't push the fundraiser thing. I'm just not that kind of guy that goes out and asks for donations. I'll have a button and just leave it on the site. I won't beat you to death with it. lol I also tried to make it "interactive" in that in exchange for the donation, I would post a picture for you thanking you for the support. I thought it would be a good idea, I still do, so I think I'll leave the whole "Buy Metallman a Beer" fundraiser open forever and those that decide to donate will get your picture as well as a link to your webpage (facebook, twitter, or whatever).
Anyways, unless some miracle happens where I raise some $500 in the next 2 weeks, I won't be attending Gen Con Indy. It's a shame since my passes were covered by the event and I would get to meet the Get a Life cohost, Brian, in person. I was hoping to get some awesome cosplay pictures, talk to a few to them, and maybe even get an interview or two with some of the celebrities that will be in attendance. Oh well. Maybe next year. In the mean time, I'll wish upon the stars, hoping to make it this year after all. Later!
