Giving Thanks for the Year that was 2014

Hey there.  Can you believe that 2014 is nearly over?  Tomorrow is New Year's Eve.  2014 will soon be a memory and new experiences will be made in 2015.  2014 has been an eventful one, both personally and professionally.  Personally, new city, new home, new environment...  Professionally, new schedule, new contacts, new opportunities.  Personal items affect business items.  Moving into a new home really set me back a bit blog wise.  I'm sure you noticed that my posts have not been as routine as they used to be.  But those months spent settling into a new home is now over and a schedule has been set in place to assure posts are done on a more consistent manner.  But I digress...  This post is about giving thanks.  Thanks to those that have made 2014 a successful one for this website.  Also, I want to give a little insight on what is to come in 2015.  So let's get right to it.

What I'm Playing... Castle Clash

Hey there.  I just haven't had the time recently to get my gaming on.  There are so many great games out there and I just haven't had the time to play them yet.  It's one of the main reasons why I find myself playing more and more mobile games.  I finally realized that playing on your smartphone is a quick fix to get a bit of gaming on.  At this moment, I'm playing Castle Clash.  It has everything that I look for in terms of quick fix gaming.  It has leveling up.  It has power ups.  It has heroes.  It has battles.  It has dungeons.  It has a timer.  The timer is the thing that makes this game work for me.  Unless you want to shell out money to get things done quickly, the timer forces you to put the game down and come back later once your troops or your buildings are done.  You see, every upgrade and troops are allotted a time.  That's how long it will take for it to ready.  A simple troop soldier may take only 20 seconds to be created while a level 9 gold vault could take up to a day.  Having only 2 builders makes your choices all the more critical.  In essence, it's one great time waster.  lol

Hey there.  I love sports.  Though my basketball team and football team are horrible this year (Raiders haven't won a game this season and the Lakers notched their 2nd win of the season last night), it doesn't stop me from enjoying the games.  I'm a fan of the sport so it really doesn't matter to me who's on the screen as long as it's a good game.  But why not take it step further?  Why not make watching a little more interesting?  This is why I love fantasy sports.  I've been playing fantasy football for a few years now and I can honestly say that since I started playing, my enjoyment of the NFL has increased.  Because I can pick and choose players from many teams to create my fantasy team, I end up following more games, I end up being exposed to different styles of play, and I end up appreciating what other teams are doing.  The same applies to fantasy basketball or any other fantasy sport that you may look into getting.  Because I choose players from many different teams, I tune in to see how they are doing.  And I'm not the only one.  It's why sites like Fanduel do so well.  You can play for free, but you can also plop down a dollar and see how you do.  Well... Thoughts on... Oculus

Hey there.  I love horror flicks.  I am intrigued by the supernatural.  I think that Amy Pond, er... Karen Gillan, is awesome.  So when I find out that there is film out there that combines all three, I just had to check it out!  In a nutshell, Oculus is a film about a mirror and some spooky stuff that goes around because of it.  Brother and sister, Tim and Kaylie, vow to destroy it once and for all.  But can they get it done before the mirror does its spooky stuff on them???  Story doesn't sound original, but it does look intriguing, so when I found the film at my local Redbox, I couldn't resist.  I haven't done a Thoughts on post in a while so let's just lay out the ground rules before I get into it.  THIS IS NOT A REVIEW.  This is merely some thoughts and observations that I made while watching the film.  Also, I will speak candidly of the film so there will be spoilers.  If you haven't seen it, go see it now and then come back and check out this post.  Now, my thoughts on... 2014 NFL Week 5 Metal Power Rankings

Hey there.  Week 4 is now in the books and the top 3 teams in my power rankings didn't budge even though they were all on bye weeks.  It just comes to show you that the top 3 are definitely in a class of their own (stunning since the Bengals are right there with the Broncos and Seahawks!)    Last week's games had more stunning upsets!  The Bucs winning over the Steelers?  Who knew?!  The Chiefs putting a beat down on the Patriots!  And the Giants finally getting it together to drop a 40 burger on Washington.  Oh man...  Another great week of games and let's hope for more to come!  I went 3-3 this week.   (19-17 overall).  Still over .500!  lol  Now, on to the rankings!

2014 NFL Week 4 Metal Power Rankings

Hey there.  Week 3 is now in the books and we are still trying to get a grasp at who are the contenders and who are the pretenders.  The game of the week?  The Broncos at Seahawks.  That was the Super Bowl match that we should have seen!  Last second heroics, by both teams.  Last second heroics to force overtime.  Last second surge to power through for the TD and the win in overtime.  It was one hell of a game!  Other notes from the week:  Are the Pats on the decline?  The Raiders gave them a good fight and if not for a questionable holding call at the end of the game, the turnout could have been different.  The Eagles continue to soar despite having to come back in each of their games.  Is San Diego on the rise?  After beating the Seahawks, Philip Rivers continues to air it out and lead the Chargers to a victory over the Bills.  More stunners, folks.  It one great week of football!  I went 5-5, again, this week (16-14 overall).  Still over .500!  lol  Now, on to the rankings!

Hey there.  People today are living fast paced lives and because of that many of them are getting out of shape. That’s why they are always looking for ways to get fit and hold that shape as long as possible. This can be very difficult especially because our time is limited. On top of that, the usual exercises that each of us knows are a little bit boring and people usually have trouble to remain motivated. That's why a lot of people that want to get into shape have a tough time continuing their fitness regimen.  If they don't change it up, they'll get bored and will see fitness and exercise as a chore instead of a hobby.  What they really need is a challenging activity that can keep them coming back for more. Hey there.  Week 2 is now in the books and we more than a few surprises after 2 weeks.  Who would have thought that the Saints would be 2-0?  Antonio Gates catches 3 TDs against the Seahawks defense?  Eagles are down 20-6 to the Colts in the 3rd quarter and come back to win 30-27?  And injuries, injuries, injuries...  RGIII, Jamaal Charles, AJ Green, and Vernon Davis just to name a few.  Wow... what season this is shaping up to be!  I went 5-5 last week (11-9 overall).  Many surprises in last week's games so I'll take it! I'm still over .500 so I can't complain.  lol  Now let's see if your team made it into my top 9.

Hey there.  Who here fancies a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock?  o.O  What?  You're not familiar with the game?  It's a variation of the childhood favorite Rock, Paper, Scissors and there are many who know the game and know the game well.  In fact, this year, at Gen Con, the largest group of participates gathered and participated in the largest tournament of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock ever!  The previous record was 2,826 participants and the new record is now 2,950!  And Oomba was there to organize and record the whole thing!

Hey there.  What an awesome start to the NFL season!  Week 1 is in the books and we have already had some thrilling games and some unexpected outcomes!  Who would have thought that the Dolphins would beat down the Patriots in a convincingly fashion?  The Packers looked mediocre against that stout Seahawk defense. The Falconts take down the Saints in overtime!  The Eagles down by 17 or so points to the Jaguars and STILL getting a victory by 17!  Talk about high flying offense!  Before we get to rankings, let's see how I did on my picks.  I went 6-4 last week (6-4 overall).  Not too bad... I'm over .500 so that's good.  lol  Now let's see if your team made it into my top 9.

Hey there.  When I was in high school, I would enjoy going to my AP Physics class.  Not so much because physics are thrilling, but because my teacher would start the class with a zen story.  These stories were meant to have the students think outside the box.  He deemed them, "thinking can't tales" and I looked forward to them.  They fascinated me.  They were indeed thought provoking and more often than not, I thought about the story well after class ended.  Well today, I came across a story that took me back to those days in class.  Let me tell you the story of Death's Messengers.

2014 NFL Week 1 Metal Power Rankings

Hey there.  Remember the NFL power rankings that I used to do years back?  Of course you don't.  lol  I started them off and wouldn't even finish the season.  But I'm going to follow through with it this time around.  I love sports and I love football and I watch plenty of football during the season to know a thing or two about ranking the top teams.  So here's the layout that I'll be using... I'll rank the top 9 teams and the Oakland Raiders (yeah... I know... they'll probably won't be in the top 9 but this is my rankings so I'll include them if I want to.  lol).  I'll give a little blurb about this week's matchup and a prediction for the game.  No scores, just straight up who I think will win the game.  I'll keep track of my predictions every week and see how we do at season's end.  New rankings will go up every Tuesday this season (I know today is Thursday, but I decided to bring this back last night) so make sure to come back and see how well I did in predicting the games.  So let's get to it!

Ganondorf Confirmed as a Playable Character in Hyrule Warriors

Hey there.  Hyrule Warriors is really bringing on the hype!  Our first real glimpse at a Zelda game for the Wii U has many fans excited, and for good reason too.  Even though the game is a spin off of The Legend of Zelda series, it's enough to quench our thirst while we wait for an actual adventure starring Link on the Wii U.  Nintendo has been feeding us screenshots and video of many of the announced playable characters of Hyrule Warriors, but none has grabbed my attention as Ganondorf has.  Just look at this beast!

Updating Blog Stats

Hey there.  Today, I am updating my blog stats on my Press Kit Page.  I haven't been able to squeeze out the time the past several months to keep up with my blog posts and let me tell you... my blog stats have suffered because of it.  Even though I do have a small following (thanks guys!) you need to keep those readers happy with content.  When the content is simply not there, you can't expect the readers to swing by for a visit.  I've always known this but it's hitting home more so now than ever.  At one point, my Alexa Rank was well under 200,000 (it's sitting at a 1,400,000+ at this moment) and I was getting over 10,000 page views a month (struggling to get 2,500 a month at this moment).  I'm not too happy with those numbers.  I know I can improve on them.

Hey there.  Comics are filled with stories made of extreme fantasy.  We have super heroes and we have super villains.  We have parallel worlds and we have alternate universes.  Throughout comic book history, heroes have died and resurrected and died again many times over.  But you know what has never happened?  At least not that I know of?  A well known character changing gender!  That's right!  We've had alternate female heroes that mirrored their masculine counterparts (Power Girl, Bat Girl, etc.) in comics but Marvel is really changing the comic book universe by having the almighty Thor be a woman in the comics!  Here are my thoughts on...
