Love the compact, take me anywhere, design of this Spry Styles 2 in 1 Charge and Sync Cable! |
Hey there. I love me some gadgets. I have all kinds. Phones, chargers, tablets, cameras, keyboards... You name it, I probably have one. The best part is that the majority of them can be charged up by a USB cable. Those of us with Apple devices use a lightning cable and those of us that use practically everything else end up using a USB cable. More often than not, it's a micro USB connection. The problem? Apple having to use a completely different cable to charge. It can be a pain having to switch back and forth between cables or even worse, having to use 2 USB ports (one for the lightning cable and one for the micro USB cable). Well, our friends at Spry Styles has solved that problem for me! They provided me with this super neat
Spry Styles Portable 2 in 1 Charge and Sync Cable that will charge using both a lightning cable port and micro USB port! It has a compact design that allows you take it anywhere with you and protects the connections to avoid damaging the connections. Let's jump right into my experience, shall we.
First off, let's check out the design. You don't see many products out there that will group a lightning cable with a micro USB connection. This product does it beautifully. The Spry Styles 2 in 1 Charge and Sync Cable has a USB connection on one end and lightning cable and micro USB connection on the other. The connections are conveniently hidden by the compact design. If I had to compare the look to something that is easily recognizable, I would say that it resembles a small, compact lock. It measures 3 and half inches when in "lock" form and approx. 8 inches when fully extended. The black rubber is a nice touch since it allows you to better grip the cable when opening it. Once you open it, it reveals all of the connections. The wire is relatively short so it completely eliminates the need of having a long wire sticking out of a wall or USB port to your device. This 2 in 1 cable has a relatively short wire and is perfect for laptop and external battery pack usage. I used to carry two long USB cables with me whenever I carried a battery pack but this Spry Styles 2 in 1 cable is so compact that it's simply a better option. And just to solidify the, "take me anywhere" factor, the cable has a keychain attached to it.

Small, compact, and ready to go. Key chain ring ready! |
As for charging times, I compared the charge to that of a 2.1A cable. Strong enough for most devices, including tablets. A downside of the design is that it will allow a single device to charge at a time. Even though it has the potential to charge 2 devices at once, the connections are angled in such a way that it will be impossible to connect 2 devices at once. That's a bummer. It would be nice to be able to connect more than a single device at a time but it's not a necessity. Not a dealbreaker by any means.

No space to connect another device!!! |
Another downside is the USB connection, you know... the part that actually goes into a USB port. Before I get into that... let me see a show of hands of those of you that have been able to plug in a USB cable on the first try. Anyone? No one? Unless you are a wizard, I'm certain that you've flipped the USB connection several times over when trying to plug in to the USB port. It's practically the universe playing jedi tricks on us. Well, I can guarantee you that you will be able to plug in this 2 in 1 cable into your USB port on the first try... but I can't guarantee that it will be inserted correctly. The USB connector does not have that metal bracket that we are accustomed to seeing and that bracket helps insert the USB cable correctly into the port. Because it's missing here, you can insert the cable on your first try but there's a 50/50 chance that you may insert it wrong. I found myself plugging it in, checking to see if it'll charge, and taking it out and flip if it was inserted incorrectly. If anything, it's really the only negative thing about this cable and it's enough to knock a star off the rating. The USB connection is made of plastic so I don't believe that it will damage your USB port but still... I would rather be blocked by the USB port than to insert the USB connector the wrong way.

Hmmm... C'mon universe! Let me get it right on the first try for once!!! |
The Spry Styles 2 in 1 Charge and Sync Cable charges extremely well, can be used with USB Micro ports as well as lightning cable ports, and is nearly perfect for those of us that carry an external battery. The fact that you can only charge one device at a time, despite having 2 connections is not necessarily a deal breaker, but I can see how inserting the cable incorrectly can turn a few people away. Since I do carry a battery pack every where I go, I simply leave the cable plugged in correctly and use it when needed. It's far more easier to leave it that way and since it's pretty compact, it's way better than to have a long wire wrapped around the battery pack. Pick one up at
Amazon for under $15. If you're techie and and need a cable for your battery pack, you simply cannot go wrong with this great cable! Later!
